Spotting trapped retail positioning
See how to read crowded trades, underwater longs and the biggest sentiment extremes — and use them to fade the retail crowd before they get flushed out.
Why it matters
- Understand retail positioning. See whether retail traders are predominantly long or short across different markets.
- Identify crowded positioning. Extremely one-sided positioning can provide useful context when assessing the strength or sustainability of a market move.
- Add sentiment to your analysis. Combine retail positioning with technical and macroeconomic signals to build a more complete view of the market.
More Than Just Long vs Short
Most sentiment tools show you a single number. This scanner breaks it down into order books, position books, trapped traders, and skew rankings — so you can actually use the data.
ORDER BOOKS + POSITION BOOKS
See Where the Orders Actually Sit
The scanner pulls live snapshots from real retail broker accounts every 20 minutes. You get two separate views for each instrument: the Order Book (pending buy and sell orders at each price level) and the Position Book (open long and short positions held at each price level).
This isn’t a vague sentiment gauge — you can see exactly at which price levels retail traders have clustered their orders and where their positions are concentrated. That tells you where stop losses are likely sitting and where liquidity pools form.

Price-Level Detail: Not just aggregate long/short — see the buy and sell order distribution at every price level across the book.

TRAPPED TRADERS
Find Who’s Underwater
The scanner doesn’t just show you long/short ratios — it calculates how many traders are trapped. A trapped trader is holding an open position that’s currently in a loss. When a large percentage of longs are trapped, a further drop can trigger a cascade of stop-loss liquidations.
All pairs are ranked by skew — how one-sided the positioning is. The more extreme the skew, the more vulnerable the crowd becomes to a sharp reversal. This is where the best contrarian setups live.
